5/5Courteous, professional, and timely Posted by MMellgren
We are very happy to give local small businesses our support. Atlanta Discount Blinds was recommended to us and we are quite pleased. There are plenty of choices for shades. Dave is helpful and honest in helping with decision making. His installer, Mark, is a professional and the whole process from beginning to end only took about 3 weeks. We would definitely recommend them for any of your window covering needs.
Atlanta Discount Blinds offer Dual Shades in a large variety of fabrics and colors. Also known as Zebra Shades, they offer a luxurious contemporary look. With their alternating bands of Opaque and Semi-Opaque strips, they give you light and privacy when you need it. So you can have light filtering and room darkening looks.
They operate like a Roller Shade with a Cassette headrail and a bottom rail that allows the fabric to rotate through opening and closing the bands. Zebra Shades are a very modern alternative to a horizontal blind. Zebra Shades are Roller shades that allow you to transition between sheer and privacy. The blinds can be adjusted so that the 3″ zebra stripes line up-offering privacy, light control, and insulation. Adjust the blinds slightly, aligning the 2″ sheer fabric section to allow incoming daylight. They can be a great addition to a bedroom or living room.
These shades can allow you to adjust the natural light levels by simply pulling the chain. Unlike Roller Shades they can be cracked slightly only allowing very little light into the room. They are a great addition to a living room window to give a spin on a regular Roller Shade or Horizontal Blind.

I had a wonderful experience with Atlanta Discount Blinds. Dave was so easy to work with. He came out once to measure (some companies have to come out twice and I didn’t want to deal with that) and everything was perfect. The installation WAS SO FAST!!!! Seriously!!! 35 blinds installed perfectly in 2 hours. I am so happy and highly recommend!!!

Roman Shades from Atlanta Discount Blinds
Roman shades are a type of window covering used to block out the sun. Roman shades are different from standard window shade in that they stack up evenly when being opened; however, when they are open they are visibly smooth, not bumpy or ribbed like typical vertical shades or blinds.
Roman shades can be opened with a cord mechanism or can use a cordless mechanism. Each mechanism allows the user to adjust the height of the covered area. In typical construction, cords run vertically on the outer side of the blind running through evenly spaced horizontal stiffener rods or eyelets on the back of the shade and then attached at the bottom of the blind. In this case, the opened portion of the blinds remains smooth, while the bottom will be stacked evenly. These shades can also be made with top-down-bottom-up mechanisms which allow only the top of the shade to come down; allowing for privacy yet still letting in natural light from the top of the window.
These shades are available in a variety of styles. Both “looped” and “classic” They are designed to create depth and dimension. Looped shades, also known as “hobbled” shades, have folds that cascade down the face of the shade to help create depth, while “classic” roman shades offer a pleated design that can be batten front or batten back. Roman shades are also available in a seamless style, which feature a smooth or flat shade face, also called “waterfall” style.
Shutter blinds from Atlanta Discount Blinds
A window shutter is a solid and stable window covering usually consisting of a frame of vertical stiles and horizontal rails (top, centre and bottom). Set within this frame can be louvers (both operable or fixed, horizontal or vertical), solid panels, fabric, glass and almost any other item that can be mounted within a frame. Shutters may be employed for a variety of reasons, including controlling the amount of sunlight that enters a room, to provide privacy, security, to protect against weather or unwanted intrusion or damage and to enhance the aesthetics of a building.
Depending on the application, and the construction of the window frame, shutters can be mounted to fit within the opening or to overlap the opening. The term window shutter includes both interior shutters, used on the inside of a house or building, and exterior shutters, used on the outside of a structure. On some styles of buildings it is common to have shutters to cover the doors as well as the windows.
Interior shutters are typically divided into narrow units hinged accordion-style so that two or more units cover each side of a window opening when closed. Operable louvered shutters have louvers (or louvres in British usage), or slats, controlled by a tilt bar or rod to adjust the louver position and keep them in a uniform position, to control light, visibility and airflow. Shutters with operable louvers are described variously as traditional shutters, California shutters, or plantation shutters. Plantation shutters, typical of warmer climates like Florida, South Africa, the Mediterranean or Australia, typically have only two shutters per window and wide louver blades.
Other interior shutters use stationary louvers that do not rotate (fixed louvers); solid raised or flat panels; fabric inserts; or tinted glass. Shutters can be configured in a single tier unit that has one shutter top to bottom of a window opening as well as multiple tiers. Multiple tier units feature separate shutters on each tier which allows the top shutters to be opened independently from the bottom shutters. Café-type shutters refer to shutters that only cover the lower portion of a window.
Full height shutters can be made with a horizontal divider rail which separates the upper and lower portions of the shutter. With operable louvered shutters this gives greater control as the louvers above the divider rail can be operated independently from the louvers below the divider rail. Interior shutters can be constructed from numerous woods, which can be painted or stained, and a variety of synthetic materials. Interior shutters that are made to close tolerances are preferable for the best possible fit. When louvers or tilt bar (rod) become damaged, replacement kits for these damaged parts may be ordered online and are easy to install.
In the UK, most interior shutters historically were paneled.
A window blind is a type of window covering. There are many different kinds of window blinds which use a variety of control systems. A typical window blind is made up of several long horizontal (or vertical) slats of various types of hard material, including wood, plastic or metal which are held together by cords that run through the blind slats. Vertical blinds run along a track system which can tilt open and closed and move side-to-side. Window blinds can be maneuvered with either a manual or remote control by rotating them from an open position, with slats spaced out, to a closed position where slats overlap and block out most of the light. There are also several types of window coverings, called shades, that use a single piece of soft material instead of slats.
The term window blinds can also be used to describe window coverings generically—in this context window blinds include almost every type of window covering, whether it is a hard or soft material; i.e. shutters, roller shades, cellular shades (also called honeycomb shades), wood blinds (also called 2 inch horizontals), Roman shades and standard vertical and horizontal blinds (also called Venetians). In the United Kingdom, awnings are sometimes called blinds or shades.
